Mrs. Shawna Kurr - New Principal of BRES

Mrs. Kurr, the new principal of BRES, has been shaping the future minds and lives of students as the assistant principal at Camden-Rockport Elementary School, for the past seven years.  Prior to that she was the Assistant Principal for seven years at Warren Community School, after serving four years as a special education teacher in the district.  She also taught one year in the behavior alternative program for grades 5-6, in the Augusta Public School Department.

She graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington with a degree in special education (K-8, emotional disturbance) and received her Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern Maine.

She had the amazing opportunity to visit Japan for three weeks with 199 other American educators from the US. This experience was sponsored by the Japanese Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program. From this experience she used local resources to create a cultural experience for her school’s community.  Mrs. Kurr is extremely passionate about Place-Based Education - using local resources to provide a community based education. The idea that the education of our youth “takes a village” is at the heart of place based theory.

Mrs. Kurr and her husband Justin, have two young daughters and live in Nobleboro.
