Dear Parents,

As many of you are aware, students across the State and country are planning on various demonstrations on March 14th.

I have been approached by several student leaders and been informed that a significant portion of our student body is arranging a planned walk out of the school at 10:00 a.m. on this day. The students have reported to me that the purpose of this activity is to honor and memorialize the students of Stoneman Douglas High School who died last month. I am told that they intend to spend 17 minutes reading the names of the victims and holding moments of silence for each one.

The School District’s administration is not endorsing this activity. However, students will be allowed to participate, without penalty, as long as behavior is appropriate and students return to class expediently. There will be a supervised space in the school for any students not wishing to participate.

Appropriate supervision will be present during the walk out along with officers from the Boothbay Harbor Police Department.
