Dear Friends of AOS 98,
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website to learn more about our district and our schools. Our five schools have the awesome responsibility of educating learners from Pre-school through 12th grade. Additionally, at Boothbay Regional High School, we have an adult education program that extends the opportunity for life-long learning. We have a school on Southport Island, an elementary/junior high school and a high school in Boothbay Harbor, a Pre-K through 6th-grade school in Edgecomb, and a school in Georgetown. We have roughly 650 learners in our five schools.
The schools are each governed by school boards. My central office staff reports to the AOS 98 board. And there is a board that leads the two Boothbay Harbor schools, a board for Edgecomb Eddy, one for Georgetown and one for Southport Island’s school. Board members are elected by the citizens of their communities, to ensure that the learners receive a top-notch public school education.
I believe we offer a high-quality education to our learners. Some might even consider it a “world-class education.” We usually have small class sizes so that our excellent teachers and support staff can focus on personalizing the learning of each learner. Our teachers are highly-skilled professionals, many with advanced academic degrees and several years experience in our district. Their focus is on scholarship and preparing learners for success today and tomorrow.
Not only do we have a rigorous academic program, but we also offer our learners many opportunities to experience a plethora of enrichment activities. How many schools can say they offer beekeeping as part of the curriculum? Learners at Georgetown Central have that opportunity plus they take advantage of the closeness of their school to the ocean and two large tidal rivers for learning adventures. Southport Central School is within walking distance of an incredible beach that experiences nine-foot tidal swings and exposes an astonishing ecosystem for them to explore (before the tide comes in of course). Learners at our high school not only have access to advanced placement courses, theater, and championship athletic programs, they can also participate in work-study programs at places like the Bigelow Laboratory, a cutting-edge ocean research facility right in our community.
As you can tell, I am proud that we have so much to offer on the beautiful coast of Maine, to our learners. Our graduates are in significant leadership and skills-related jobs throughout the world. They have benefited from the high quality of personalized education they have received in our schools. I want to preserve that tradition of excellence, and I plan to take us to the next level of excellence. Please feel free to visit, call or email me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your interest in our schools, and most importantly, our terrific learners.
