Dear Edgecomb Eddy Student (& Parents),

I cannot believe that I will be seeing you again in less that one month!  I hope that you have all been enjoying the fabulous weather this summer and that you have been spending as much time as possible having fun outdoors, and enjoying your friends and family.  I also hope that you have read several good books over the vacation and will continue to do so as we approach the opening day of school. When I have not been doing school work, I have been swimming and playing a lot with my family this summer, reading as much as I can, and attempting to tire out my over-energetic dog whenever possible (albeit this seems like an impossible task).  I also enjoyed an awesome week working as a counselor for Mrs. Bezon at one of her Hearty Roots programs for boys, and I hope you all consider attending next summer, or any of our other amazing local camp activities that are available in the area.

Our teaching staff returning for this next school year is nearly the same, but folks have moved around a bit.  Mrs. Casey is still our Pre-K teacher, Mrs. Garey will have Kindergarten and some first graders in her homeroom, Mrs. Currier will have some first graders and all second graders in her homeroom, Ms. Crocker will have third graders and some fourth graders, Ms. Rose will have fifth graders and some fourth graders, and Mrs. Browne will still have sixth grade for her homeroom.  If you are in a grade that is split between two teachers, do not worry - you will know whose homeroom to report to on the first day of school.

To get us off on the right foot, we will be starting the year focused on our school being a welcoming place where every student feels like he or she belongs.  We at Edgecomb Eddy want you to come back on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 29th, ready to act on the three Rs of respect, responsibility, and reflection, and prepared to challenge your minds right off the bat.  To help you prepare, there are two major events all of you should attend. On Saturday, August 19, the Boothbay Region Community Resource Council will be hosting Set for Success.  This has become an annual event and will take place at 1 pm at the Boothbay YMCA.  It is a wonderful opportunity for all AOS 98 students to come and receive a backpack full of school supplies they will need for this upcoming school year as well as receive other services that may be available at the event that day.  All students are welcome, no matter your level of financial means. The supplies are generously provided by local businesses and other donors who want to see all children able to put their best foot forward as we start the school year.  Another event to get us all ready for the first day of the school is the second annual Welcome Back BBQ.  This event, hosted by the Edgecomb Eddy Parent Teacher Club, will take place on Monday, August 27th, 5:00 - 7:00 pm.  All students and parents are welcome to join us for this event.  It will be a fun way for us to greet each other before the start of the school year.  There will be a survey regarding additions to our playground space for folks attending this event, which will help to provide direction as we charge forward with making changes to our outdoor recreation space.  We hope to see a lot of you there. Have fun with your last few weeks of summer vacation. I look forward to seeing you all soon.
