Mrs. Rice's third graders are partnering with the Boothbay Sea and Science Center to grow seaweed! Last week, they set up their tank and equipment, and this week they're receiving two types of seaweed seedlings: Sugar Kelp and Alaria. Later this year they will have the opportunity to visit the Darling Marine Center!

Our 6th graders recently embarked on an unforgettable field trip outdoors with Hearty Roots. This 3-day and 2-night adventure was rich in learning and fun. During this trip, 6th graders participated in wood carving, trail time, fire building, canoeing, swimming, storytelling, stargazing, building forts, and other fun activities. By stepping outside the traditional classroom, our 6th graders built resilience, deepened their connection with nature, and strengthened friendships across their entire peer group. We are deeply grateful to Hearty Roots for providing our students with such an impactful and empowering experience to kick off their final year at EES!

This month the 4th grade class and their Kindergarten buddy class are going to utilize the various herbs in the garden to make focaccia! The two classes will work with their buddies to create a work of art and learn the process of making bread.

5 th grade is piloting a math program this year called “Into Math”. So far, so good! The feedback is positive from the 5th graders. This program’s platform resembles our literacy program “Into Reading”, so the students have picked up the online aspects and philosophy quickly. Next year,EES will be implementing one of two math programs that are being piloted this year. Stay tuned!
