Dear AOS 98 School Community Members;

I hope that this letter finds you and yours doing well and enjoying the summer.   I’m writing to provide you an update on our reopening of schools.  All AOS 98 Schools will be reopening to full-time, in person learning this fall!  The district is not offering a hybrid or remote model of instruction at this time.  If you have questions or concerns about your child’s ability to access in-person learning, please contact my office or email me at rkahler@AOS98schools.org.   Student and staff safety are the first lens and last lens we look through before decisions are made. I have no doubt that by continuing to work together we will overcome any of the challenges before us to help our students continue to thrive and to reach their goals.

*The early release time for BRES on Weds. is still being finalized

School Bus Routes will be posted by individual schools on their websites and also in the Boothbay Register as soon as they are finalized.  The CDC is requiring masking for all persons on school busses and vans.  There are no requirements for physical distancing on buses or inside schools, but we will provide distancing to the greatest extent possible.

Based on the latest data related to Covid-19 virus and the Delta variant- Federal and State health authorities recently strongly recommended that all students and staff wear masks inside of school, regardless of vaccination status.  As of this date Southport Central, Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor CSD and Edgecomb Eddy have voted to follow Maine Department of Education and Maine Centers for Disease Control recommendations which include universal masking when indoors regardless of vaccination status.  Georgetown Central School will vote on this matter at their board meeting on Tuesday, August 24th.

I would remind everyone that by working together schools and communities we’re able to implement health and safety protocols last year that worked to keep our schools safe. Students, staff, and communities went above and beyond last year and accomplished amazing things under these conditions and I am fully confident that we will do so again this year.

Thank you in advance for your continued patience, cooperation, and flexibility.   I look forward to meeting you.  Look for more detailed school information to be posted online.

Sincerely,

Robert Kahler,

Superintendent of Schools
